Owl Prowl, Creepy cat, Frame Project Unveiled & Happy Halloween!

Summer art shows and harvest markets have wrapped up for the year, I miss them already! It really is a treat to get out there and see everyone. But, alas, hibernation begins… There are a couple holiday shows on the horizon, fingers crossed that they go ahead without too many hiccups. October is a busy month at chateau VonRaven, Thanksgiving, Halloween and birthdays but I did manage to get some painting in…

*THE FRAME PROJECT UNVEILING*

Welp, here it is! 50 pieces of original art featuring words inspired by the dumpster fire that’s been 2020. All sarcasm aside, it’s been a challenging year and I am glad to see so much positivity and inspiration come out of it all. It was a great idea for a project, well executed and I am happy to be included in this lasting relic of a very unique time in history.

Ironically, the covid inspired installation is displayed in a location currently unavailable to public viewing due to covid restrictions – go figure! *face palm* I do look forward to seeing it in person…one day.

*HAPPY HALLOWEEN*

It’s going to be weird this year, but I hope everyone finds their own little ways of making it awesome! May your day be filled with candy, magic, monsters and all the roasted pumpkin seeds you can nosh =)

Why Art?

A large abstract painting hangs in the foyer of my favorite pizza joint. (needless to say, I’ve spent a fair amount of time staring at it). It’s very neutral, splashes of browns and beige. Dark taupe, medium taupe and light taupe. I don’t care for it, I wouldn’t rush to hang it in my house. But I spend more time staring at it rather than the TV screen on an opposite wall as I eagerly await the greasy box of cheesy goodness. I’m always drawn to a particular feature which reminds me of a coffee cup ring… that small, personal impression may or may not be apparent to every viewer (art, after all, is subjective) but it’s always the first thing I notice. From there, a door in my imagination opens… all the sensations experienced when you walk in to a cozy coffee shop. The warmth, the aromas, the dimly illuminated ambience. The anticipation of delicious flavors and refreshment. A quiet escape or a visit with friends. It feels like comfort. Lost in my own little world, reality eclipsed by daydreams… and then it happens, a distant voice pierces the reverie… “Pick up for Natalie”?!? Quite the experience from a mere picture on the wall, imagine the response from a piece of art you actually like!

Art is so much more than a picture on the wall. It is an expression, a connection, an experience. A conversation piece, an inspiration, an ideal to work toward. A reminder to smile, or laugh or not take yourself so damn seriously.
